Blogging Pioneer Influences Youth

Byline: Jeremy Klaff

Be passionate about life.

There once was a young boy who had a dream of becoming a famous author and owning his own brand of wine. This boy grew up to be Gary Vaynerchuk.

Gary Vaynerchuk, author of "Crush It," spoke to the Texas State University campus on Wednesday. He was voted No. 1 Blogger of the Year and No. 18 on Askmen.com's Top 49 Most Influential Men of 2009.

Vaynerchuk emphasized working hard, maximizing resources and determination as ways to better individual chances of making it in the social media.

He believes that the internet gives everybody a chance to reach a target.

"The fact that every person in this room, whatever passion, can use a blog and write, puts society on a higher level than what it was," Vaynerchuk said.

Vaynerchuk is confident that the internet isn't being utilized most efficiently for what we are given today.

"The Internet itself, is the single most underrated thing in our society right now," said Vaynerchuk.

Tj Ladusky, electronic media senior, spoke with Vaynerchuk about the importance of Twitter and Google.

"Twitter and Google seem to be the only sites I use. Twitter gives me a chance to network with friends. Google gives me the opportunity to have fast results about a variety of inquiries," Ladusky said.

Sam Howell, public relations junior, related when Vaynerchuk stated, "The Internet is Lebron James 2.0".

"It really does give you so many options of expansion. This could be for personal growth, business or any type of community event that helps promote in an area of interest," said Howell.

Anisia Morales, public relations junior, enjoyed the straight forward attitude of Vaynerchuk.

"The best way to describe Vaynerchuk is; What you see is what you're going to get," Morales stated.

Vaynerchuk is one of many speakers that participated in Mass Communication Week. All speakers can be found on the Texas State University website.
