Session: Making it in the World of Media
Lela Walsh, Patrick George and Dale Blasingame are the panelist for the first MC Week experience. All three panelists have accomplished many achievements in radio and TV and were more than happy to share their tips for success to students. Dale Blasingame is an ex-college athlete who had no intention of being in the mass communication world. After his freshman year, while listening to the local sports radio, Blasingame decided to pursue a career in broadcasting. Blasingame graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 1999 and have since won two Emmys.
The panelists believe that the world of media is very stressful, and good writing skill, deadline management, and managing stress are the keys to success in the industry. According to all three, you have to absolutely adore the job to make it. “You have to love reporting and your job,” Lela Walsh said.
